Γλυκά - gleeka - sweets / dessert

glyka

Notes:

Baklava: The famous Greek sweet, crushed walnuts under thick pasty, soaked in honey.

Kataifi: similar to baklava but made with shreds of pasty so it somewhat resembles Shredded Wheat.

Meelopita: apple pie, usually in thick pastry.

Karythopita: walnut cake.

Yiaorti may meli: Greek yogurt and honey.

Pagoto: ice cream.

Ravani / revani: a local delicacy made from unlikely ingredients but very pleasant to the taste. Like most Greek sweets, tends to be quite sweet so a dollop of ice cream with it may go down a treat.

Dip'les: a thin, crispy pastry, usually made with nuts, dipped in honey

Loukomarth'es: Greek doughnuts, round dough balls fried in oil then coated in honey, syrup or chocolate sauce.

Halvas: very popular with Greeks but not so often seen on the menu. Made from walnuts and semolina, mostly commercially made in northern Greece in the form of an oblong 'log' which is sliced into portions. If it's been around a while it can taste powdery but, when fresh, it's quite moist and very pleasant. Home-made halvas tends to be slightly different in consistency but equally as delicious.
